What are they and how do they work

Robocylinders are cost effective and easy to use actuators designed for simple missions compared to pneumatic cylinders, offering greater flexibility and control possibilities.

They allow for multiple positioning, control of position, speed, acceleration, thrust and modification of speed during movement.

In comparison to a compressed air system this series allow, despite a higher initial cost (ranging from 20 to 40%) they lead to an economic saving of approximately 50% within 3 years. Moreover compatible installation methods with those of air cylinders have been introduced, enabling their replacement, if necessary, without modifying the system layout.

In practice robocylinders can be used to replace old pneumatic systems quickly without modifying programs on the PLC or change electrical panels.

The robocylinders series, continuously evolving, now features versions with brushless or step motor, integrated in-line, coupled by means of a joint and parallel gear.

Versions, with rod or slide, with thin thickness, at high, medium, or low speed, are available.

Robocylinder’s motorization can be AC 24V, DC24V, AC220V.

The multiple usable control units ensure high functionality and flexibility.

Depending on the desired use you can choose from 2 or 3 position controllers, which are closer to the air cylinder, 512 position, pulse train or more comprehensive programmable controllers that can manage up to 1500 positions interpolating 2 axes or 4 axes.

Advantages over pneumatic cylinders and main features

  • Multiple position and incremental controls
  • Thrust control
  • Motion control (accelerations and speeds)
  • Output zone signal
  • Pause command
  • High precision and repeatability
  • Reliability

Working area

The working area of robocylinders can only be a segment for the single axis, a rectangle for the combination of 2 axes working on orthogonal planes (XY; XZ; ZY) and a parallelepiped for 3 axes working on orthogonal planes (XYZ).

Configurations

Single robocylinder can be used or they can be integrated to create cartesian configurations of multiple axes.
The RC actuators can be combined in a 2 or more axis systems with brackets and cable carrier, to create various configurations and achieve positioning in space within a well-defined parallelepiped area.

Application’s fields

The robocylinder has an extensive range of applications, as it can be used whenever there is a need to control the kinematics when handling an object. This includes applications such as pick&place, packaging, palletizing, quality control, fluid dispensing and finishing operations.

IAI

IAI’s robocylinders come in an extremely wide range, both in terms of mechanical and kinematic features.

The Robocylinder series, like the entire IAI production, aims to meet the needs of those seeking a plug&play philosophy.
